AI Automation for Law Firms

Law firms sell expertise and time, yet a large share of each week goes on work that is not legal advice: answering first calls, chasing clients for documents, preparing standard paperwork and keeping matter data tidy. Automating the administrative layer can free fee-earners for the work only they can do.

Regulatory and professional responsibility stays with the firm and its solicitors. Any automation we design is there to support your people, not replace their judgement, and a qualified person reviews anything with legal effect. We have not built a system specifically for a law firm, so this page describes what this typically looks like rather than a delivered project.

Where the friction is

Enquiries that arrive when nobody is free

Prospective clients often ring while fee-earners are in meetings or court, and many will contact another firm rather than leave a message. Reception cover is costly and rarely extends beyond office hours.

Slow, uneven follow-up on new enquiries

Leads that are not contacted promptly tend to go cold. Following up consistently is difficult when the people responsible are also billing time.

Standard documents drafted from scratch

Engagement letters, routine correspondence and first drafts of common documents are repeatedly assembled by hand, taking time from trained staff.

Chasing clients and third parties

Waiting on documents, signatures and payments can hold up matters. Reminders are often sent late because nobody owns them.

Management information that takes effort to produce

Partners want to see pipeline, workload and billing at a glance, but the data sits across case management, accounts and email.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI give legal advice to our clients?

We do not build systems to give legal advice, and we would not recommend it. Automation here handles administration such as call answering, scheduling and drafting for review. Advice, judgement and anything with legal effect remain with your qualified people.

Who is responsible for regulatory compliance when a firm uses automation?

The firm. Your obligations to the regulator, to clients and under data protection law do not transfer to a supplier. We can design around your requirements, but you should take your own compliance advice and approve the design before use.

How is client confidentiality handled?

Confidentiality needs to be designed in from the start: what data the system sees, where it is stored, who can access it and which suppliers process it. We discuss these questions during scoping, and your firm decides what is acceptable.

Is document drafting automated end to end?

No. Drafting automation prepares a first version from your templates and matter data, then routes it to a named person for review and approval. Nothing is sent to a client or third party without that sign-off.
